Measuring tips
It is very important to measure your windows exactly so that the window
treatments, whether they are shades, blinds or drapes, fit properly and
look nice. Some people will measure their windows over and over and get
a different measurement each time, even though the measurement may only
be off by a fraction of an inch. This may create a great deal of angst
in the process.
The following are some tips which may assist you in accurately measuring
your windows. It is best to use a steel measuring tape, rather than a
cloth tape because a steel tape will give you a more precise
measurement. Record the width measurement first, then the height. For
example, write down 8 feet by 6 feet, if the window is 8 feet wide and 6
feet high. Then the factory worker will read it accurately (of course,
it would be best to specify width and height).
Measurements should be rounded off to the nearest 1/8" so if a
measurement is 15/16" it would be 7/8". Measuring for your blinds or
shades generally causes more frustration than mounting or hanging them
because you know you must be accurate down to the 1/8" measurement. The
factory will allow for deductions, so do not do this yourself. All
windows should be measured, even if they appear to be the same size
(such as when you have two windows side by side in the same room).
Some window treatments will have inside mounts and some will have
outside mounts. Therefore, find a depth chart (in a store or online) to
obtain the mount space you need for the blinds or shades.
